ISLAMABAD: The campaign against smoke emitting vehicles is continuing in the Islamabad Capital Territory, 167 vehicles were challaned in the last month.
Those challaned have been warned to get their motors properly tuned to avoid heavy penalties, if they were caught second time. The drive against vehicles emitting fumes has been launched by the district administration to keep the capital's environment clean and free from pollution.
The Additional District Magistrate last month challaned 131 persons for violation of traffic rules and realised a fine of Rs 24,000.
Transport Authority Secretary Malik Afsar Khan has been checking the vehicles daily.
Malik Afsar checked 26 vehicles for violation of traffic rules on routes Nos. 6, 120, 121 and 122 and realised a fine of Rs 13,000 on Tuesday. He warned the wagon operators against charging more than the prescribed fares.
Accompanied by Col Mohammad Siddique of the Army Monitoring Team, he also removed unauthorised bus stands at Faizabad to ensure smooth flow of traffic on Murree road.
The District Administration has invigorated the special traffic campaign to ensure strict compliance of rules by the general public.
The Transport Authority secretary delivered lectures to the drivers on road safety and abeyance of traffic rules during his visits to various bus and wagon stands.
He particularly asked them to avoid over-charging, over-loading, complete their specified routes besides being polite and courteous to the passengers.
The administration has advised that vehicles should not ply without number plates, wrong parking should be avoided, token tax be promptly paid and pressure horns and tape recorders be removed from public transport.
