Lahore or Sheikhupura LHC directs Edhi to select site suitable for his centre

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed renowned social worker, Abdus Sattar Edhi to visit the places indicated by the Deputy Commissioner Lahore and Sheikhupura under the directions of the august court for establishment of Edhi Center there.

Both the Deputy Commissioners informed the august court that there are different places in Lahore and Sheikhupura which could be given for setting up of centres.

The court, when asked Abdus Sattar Edhi about the place suitable for his centre, he said he could only decide after visiting the places.

The legal adviser of Auqaf Department contended before the court that the court could not pass orders to the department for giving any land to Maulana Edhi. He said the Auqaf Department only supervise the land of the Federal government but it could give it on rent or lease after the directions of the Federal Government. The court however, observed that we wanted to help Edhi for establishing his centre at Lahore. The court further observed that when the officials of the Auqaf Department will take account of the services of Edhi, they will also agree to help him.

He also contended that the department had given three square land to different people on lease but now it has become difficult to recover the said land from the lease as they had approached the courts and got stay.

The court observed that the government officials are habitual to blame the courts only to cover their misdeeds and adjourned the proceedings till next date of hearing.

Meanwhile the court adjourned till April 12, the proceeding in a petition filed by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association(LHCBA) M. D. Tahir praying to the court to direct the respondents to take action against the delinquent police officials in serial killing case.
