International agri scientists visit AARI

FAISALABAD: Agricultural research conducted at AARI, Faisalabad could prove beneficial for the other countries also.

This was stated by members of the delegation of International agricultural scientists. The delegation comprised the agricultural scientists from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and China. The delegation has come to Pakistan on a travelling seminar tour and got acquaintance regarding the agricultural research related to wheat-rice cultivation system in Pakistan.

Plant Protection Director Dr. Ahmad Saleem Akhtar told the delegation that the institute is striving to develop the crop varieties, which possess adaptability for cultivation in different climatic zones and cultivation systems.

He further told that 60 percent wheat is cultivated after cotton, rice, sugarcane and consequently short duration varieties of wheat are more suited for obtaining higher yield.

Elucidating the factors imperative for self-sufficiency of wheat, Dr. Ahmad Saleem emphasized the need for the better management of crops and timely supply of farm inputs to the growers. Plant Breeders, extension workers and manufacturers of agricultural machinery were also included in the delegation besides farmers related to wheat, rice cultivation system.
