45,000 tonnes wheat procurement target for Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: The Punjab government has fixed the wheat procurement target of 45,000 tonnes for Faisalabad District this season and established 16 procurement centres.

This was stated by the district food controller, Shahid Niaz, at a meeting held here on Monday, under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Hussan Nawaz Tarrar.

The meeting was informed that the government had fixed a target of 35,000 tonnes during the last year but the food department has crosed this target by procuring 37,500 tonnes of wheat.

The deputy commissioner exhorted the need that the food officials should intensify their efforts to achieve the procurement target of 45,000 tonnes during 2000.

He directed that the assistant commissioners should identify the points where the 16 wheat procurement centres could be established.

He asked that the farmers and wheat growers should be expeditiously paid the price of the procured wheat and proper arrangements for speedy transportation of the wheat from procurement centres to the godowns of food department be made.

The district food controller also informed the meeting that the wheat procurement drive will start in the last week of April and completed within a month.
