people-friendly

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Shafqat Mahmood on Monday said that solid proposals are being formulated to improve the culture of government departments and make them people-friendly.

He was presiding over a meeting of Provincial Task Force on Institutional Reforms.

The minister, who is also the convener of the Task Force said that the process initiated by the government is basically aimed at streamlining the government departments for making them service-oriented. He clarified that the service of government official would not be affected by the exercise, however, strict action would be taken against the corrupt elements.

Provincial Secretary of Communication and Works gave a detailed briefing about the basic responsibility, performance and the process of implementation of development projects of C and W Department.

A five-member sub-committee was also constituted for reviewing the functioning of Communication and Works Department and submitted proposals for its reorganisation. The sub-committee will submit its report within three months to the Task Force which would make necessary recommendations to the government in the light of the report.

Provincial Minister for Finance and Planning Shahid Hafeez Kardar, Provincial Secretaries of various departments, members of Task Force and experts from the private sector also attended the meeting.ÑPPI
