Fishing rights:
Ghazi Barotha
authorities asked
to submit report
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Umer Asghar Khan on Sunday directed Ghazi Barotha Hydle Power Project authorities to submit a report keeping in view the rights of fishermen living in the vicinity of the project.
The minister issued the directions during a call on by the fishermen from Swabi District (NWFP), who apprised him of their problems in the wake of construction of Ghazi Barotha Hydle Power Project. The fishermen demanded that they be given fishing rights in the pond which would be constructed as a part of the project.
The minister after listening to their problems directed the authorities concerned to submit a report keeping in view the timely completion of the project and protecting the rights of fishermen living in the area.
He said the government is giving due importance to the rights and establishment of the marginalised and poor communities such as the landless small growers and fishermen.
He highlighted the need for comprehensive fisheries management plan, which should allow the fishermen to have access to the fish catch in the Ghazi Barotha Project.ÑAPP
