Abdel-Razak to be confirmed as Egypt's wheat buyer

CAIRO: Egypt's new main wheat buyer Mohamed Abdel-Razak will be confirmed in his post as vice-chairman of the state General Authority for Supply Commodity (GASC), a government official said on Sunday.

The official said Abdel-Razak was not a temporary replacement for Samir Shakankiri, 67, who retired abruptly last month after serving as GASC vice-chairman for 12 years.

There had been speculation that GASC would turn to a purchasing committee system following Shakankiri's retirement.

Last week's first wheat tender by Abdel-Razak showed there was no immediate change in the system, but the source said such a change could not be ruled out.-Reuters
