Gang busted: arms, valuables recovered

Lahore: City police have busted an 11-member notorious gang of criminals, known as 'Mian Sialkoti Gang', and recovered arms, jewellry and other valuables worth millions of rupees.

Addressing a crowded news conference here on Friday, City Police Chief Capt. Zubair Mehmood claimed that the head of the gang, Asad Mehmood alias Mian Sialkoti, during the investigations has confessed to have involvement of his gang in 70 crimes of heinous nature, including theft, docoities, looting offices of goods transport companies and travel agents etc.

Giving details of the crimes committed by the gang, the SSP said that arms and ammunition recovered from the criminals included five hand-grenades, one rifle along with a magazine, one kalashankov, four pump action guns, 15 pistols along with 12 magazines, one revolver, 30 cartridges and 500 bullets.

The valuables included eight gold bangles, 9 gold lockets, five chains, tops, rings and other kinds of jewellry in addition to a cash amount of Rs 1,640,000. Four motorbikes, 6 colour television sets, one VCR, two CD players, one VCP, seven cameras, six cellular phone sets, one deck and 13 wrist watches were also recovered from their possession.

The SSP told reporters that the IGP has announced to give commendation certificate to CIA DSP, Mohammad Umer Virk who played a key role in arresting the culprits.
