Attiya to

discuss Kashmir

issue with Annan

ISLAMABAD: Dr Attiya Inayatullah, Member of National Security Council, will discuss Kashmir issue with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and deliver a national policy statement as guest speaker at 56th session of the Commission on Human Rights at Geneva on April 4.

She is scheduled to leave for Geneva on Saturday at the head of Pakistan delegation.

Talking to APP here, Dr Attiya said she will discuss with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan matters pertaining to human rights with specific reference to occupied Kashmir.

She said Kofi Annan is scheduled to be the second guest speaker at the Commission after her on April 4 where she will apprise the UN body of the various initiatives that the government has so far taken regarding human rights and other areas of interest to the Commission.

During her stay she will hold meetings with leaders of the other delegations and members of the Commission.

The agenda of the Commission includes right to development, violation of fundamental, freedoms, rights of the child and rights of women and gender perspective including violence against women.

The UN Commission on Human Rights is the main UN body dealing specifically with human rights issues.ÑAPP
