MINISTRY OF COMMERCE
ORDER
Islamabad, the 24th October, 2001

S.R.O. 724(I)/2001.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, 1950 (XXXIX of 1950), the Federal Government is pleased to direct that the following amendment shall be made in the Import of Engineering Goods (Control) Order, 1998, namely:-

In the aforesaid Order;—
(i) in paragraph 2, in clause (a) for the figures and word "17 of 1994" the figures and word "7 of 1998" shall be substituted;

(ii) in paragraph 3, for the words "engineering goods produced in Pakistan" the words "supply of engineering goods produced in Pakistan to the Government" shall be substituted;

(iii) in paragraph 4, in sub-paragraph (1), in clause (d), the words "about the cases of price preference" shall be omitted; and

(iv) after paragraph 4, the following new paragraph shall be inserted, namely:-

"4A. The Government Departments providing and availing price preference ot the local engineering industries shall submit reports on six monthly basis to the Ministry of Commerce with copies to the Engineering Development Board. The Engineering Development Board shall monitor on a regular basis, the implementation of this Order towards achieving import substitution, and indigenization about the cases of price preference allowed. The Government Departments shall aos provide full justification about the cases where local purchases are not made and preference is given to imports. The report shall outline the future plan for import substitution in that area."
