NOTIFICATION
Islamabad, the 23rd January, 1978
S.R.O. 99(I)/78.- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 of the Drugs Act, 1976 (XXXI of 1976), the Federal Government, being of the opinion that the public interest so requires, is pleased to exempt the drugs given in Column-1 of the table below, subject to the conditions specified in Column-2 thereof:-

| 1. Substance not intended for medicinal use. | 1. All the provisions of Chapter II and III of the Act and the rules made thereunder subject to the condition that the drug is not sold for medicinal use or for use in the manufacture of drugs and does not purport to comply with the specifications set out under clause (z) of section 3 of the Act. |
| 2. Drugs supplied by a registered medical practitioner to his own patients or to another such practitioner on his request if these are specially dispensed with reference to the condition and for the use of individual patient as well as storage of drugs for the said purpose provided the registered medical practitioner is not,- | 2. The provisions of Chapter II & III of the Act and the rules made there under subject to the condition that in the case of a drug containing any substance specified in the Schedule,- |
| (a) selling across the counter; | (a) the drug shall be labelled with the name and address of the institution by which, or the registered medical practitioner by whom, it is supplied; |
| (b) engaged in the importation, manufacture, or sale of drugs in Pakistan to a degree which renders him liable to the provisions of Chapter II and III of the Act and the rules made thereunder. | (b) if the drug is for external application, it shall be labelled, with the words "Poison. For external use only" or, if it is for internal use, with the dose; |
| (c) the name of the drug or ingredients of the preparation and the quantities thereof, or, a reference from which the said information can be found, the dose prescribed, the name of the patient and the date of supply shall be entered at the time of supply in a register to be maintained for the purpose; | |
| (d) the entry in the register shall be given a number and that number shall be entered on the label of the container; | |
| (e) the register and the prescriptions, if any, on which the medicines are issued, shall be preserved for not less than two years from the date of the last entry in the register or the date of the prescription, as the case may be. |
