Islamabad, the 8th November, 1979
S.R.O. 1017(I)/79.- In exercise of the powers conferred
by section 36 of the Drugs Act, 1976 (XXXI of 1976), the Federal Government is pleased to
exempt the drugs containing Codeine from the operation of the provisions of clause (vii)
of sub-section 1 of section 23 of the said Act subject to the following conditions,
namely:-
(a) The manufacture, including composition, nomenclature labelling, maximum retail price
and packing size, of the aforesaid drugs shall be subject to the prior approval of the
Federal Government;
(b) All manufacturers shall furnish the following informations to the Federal Government;
(i) Name, quantity and date of manufacture of the aforesaid drugs, and
(ii) Names of the dealers and quantity of the drugs supplied to them;
(c) The aforesaid drugs shall be sold on the prescription of the registered medical
practitioner; and
(d) Proper record of sale of the aforesaid drugs shall be maintained by all concerned and
furnished to the Federal Government or shown to any Drugs Inspector on demand.
2. The exemption granted this notification shall be valid:
(a) In respect of manufacture of the aforesaid drugs until the 31st day of January, 1980;
and
(b) In respect of sale of the aforesaid drugs until the 31st day of July, 1980.
